A week of family

It's been the week of Grandparents for Olivia. My parents were in from Indianapolis for a tour of PA at the beginning of the week. We were their first stop. I think Lancaster and Gettysburg were next on the list. I enjoy being able to share Olivia with them. We just saw them a month ago, but she's changed so much. We made a trip to the National Aviary on the North Side. What a neat place. It was a first time visit for all of us and Josh is a native. No one got pooped on either!

Grammy K came to visit for a couple days at the end of the week. Josh was working every night so we got some good quality time together. Josh gets wound up when she's around...there's somebody else's buttons other than mine to push when she's around, so it's kind of nice for him to be kept busy. It was a really pleasant visit though. She helps me get caught up on housework and lets me sleep in the morning by taking Olivia. Works for me!

I have no recollection of this picture being taken. Josh must have been helping me get Olivia ready for bed.

A Good Week

This week has been a great week to be a mom. I'm not 100% sure why, but it's Friday and I'm feeling really good.

Maybe it's because Olivia is sleeping in her own room and doing a good job. I'm getting 3 solid hours of sleep at a time. Hooray! Or is it because, we finally had our appointment with our new pediatrician and he is phenomenal! We had such a bad experience with her first one, I thought all Ped's were going to be like that. Who didn't do their research? She got her first shots though. She cried but she was such a good girl. It was too funny, she cried for a second with the first shot, then stopped as the nurse was giving her the 2nd one. Olivia was intrigued as to what this lady was sticking into her leg. The crying didn't stop though between the 2nd and 3rd one. Once Dad handed her over to me, she piped down. She loves her Momma. You wouldn't think it would be so unexpected to go somewhere where your concerns and opinions are listened to, and you're treated with respect. None of that "Oh you had her at one of those places where you were released in 24 hours"

I know that the shots are necessary, and I do feel better about her starting to get immunized, but it makes me so nervous. I'm still afraid that something will go wrong. She's a happy girl though. An hour later she managed to pull off her band-aid and was playing with it.

Her stats for 8 months are
16 lb 4.8 oz
26 inches
Head circumference 48 cm
She's in the 25th percentile for about everything. She's my little petite girlie.

Back to why it was a good week...maybe it's because Josh is out of the house all day!! He's back to working days at the Club. He's also still DJ'ing some nights. I didn't realize how cranky we made each other. It's nice to be just me and Olivia.

Scooter Bug

It makes me so happy that Olivia starts to scoot after me when I leave the room. I don't see her doing that for Dad. Then again he's not her food source. I'll sit on the floor with her and she's torn between scooting over to my lap or playing with her toys. My lap usually wins out. She hasn't mastered how to actually get on it though. Usually I just get her popsicle hands on my feet and legs.

Again she was the life of the party yesterday. She just loves to be the center of attention. We had a little family reunion of Josh's to go to. Lots of cousins that Josh hasn't seen in many, many years.

Last week we bought an Ergo baby carrier. Why did we need it exactly? Because it was oh so comfy and Josh will actually use it! Anything to give me a little break. I've heard such great things about it too. I was worried it was too much of an impulse buy and was starting to have second thoughts about spending that much money on another carrier. Yesterday was proof that it was a good choice. Josh was wearing her and she fell to sleep while he was sitting down. If I'm wearing her I have to walk in circles for it seems like forever before she falls asleep. Then he got hot and his butt fell asleep, took her off and of course she woke up. But a little nap is better than no nap. I was kind of jealous though. She's supposed to sleep on me! I got stuck carrying the camera...our other baby.

A social butterfly

I think we need to start being around crowds of people all the time! I can stand social situations so much better with Olivia is tow. She's my accuse to plop down somewhere and not have to mingle. Josh has a habit of wandering and I hate following him everywhere, especially when I am around people I don't know. Yea, I'm not a very social person. Olivia is so good around people though. She must get that from Dad!

It was a weekend full of celebrations, catching up with old friends, enjoying good food, good drinks and good music. Everyone always says that Olivia is such a good baby and she really is! Whenever we are around people she doesn't make a peep. She's calm, cool and collected. As long as I can get away to feed her, we're in good shape.

Friday night Josh and I got dressed up for a night out at Hofbrauhaus. What a crazy place! I think it's the new Pittsburgh hotspot. Where else can you dance on benches and do shot-skis? I did one but not the other. I'll let you guess which one. It was a great adult night out though.

Saturday night was a wedding reception at the Heinz History Center downtown. I forgot how nice it was to wear a new dress. Josh kept saying how great I looked all night. It's amazing what styling your hair and a little make-up will do! Olivia got passed around and was a happy camper. She even took a nap during dinner time and I got to eat without having to dodge her grabby hands. Thank goodness for my wrap. She was quite the party animal and stayed out way past her bedtime. Didn't start fussing until about 12:00. Everyone loved her though. Quite the hit.

Sunday we had a housewarming party for friends that just bought a new house. It's so great to be able to be with friends as they celebrate new milestones in their lives. It's always a plus when we got somewhere that Olivia doesn't have to be held. She discovered the wonder of carpeting. She grabbed whole fistfuls while she was scooting around.

Unfortunately no pictures yet from the weekend. We'll have to deal with this one from the 4th of July!

Approaching 6 months

How it is possible that Oliva is almost 6 months already? It's just amazing how fast the time goes. Everybody said it would and I always said, I know it will. I'm trying to soak up every minute. So why am I surprised it went by so fast?

We are working on getting her crib trained. We've been working on it for about a week. It's hard to keep her in there, especially when she is up every 2 hours eating. Once 2:00 rolls around it's a challenge to stay awake enough to get her back to the crib. We are both half asleep at that point. Staying in bed is just so much easier! It doesn't help that Josh doesn't get home until after 2:30 and isn't in bed until after 4:00. Olivia gets her side of the bed, I get mine. It seems weird to say that this is a success, but we actually got her to cry her self asleep for her early evening nap. Josh said he was proud of me, but whew! it was hard!

Why didn't anyone tell me that making my own baby food would be so fun? Too bad my baby food motivation can't be carried over into the rest of the house.

Welcome

Welcome to our P Pod!

After thinking about it for almost a year, I finally came up with a good name for a blog. I never did anything with the other one because the name just didn't seem right. Now that we have Olivia, our littlest P, "Three P's in a Pod" just fits.

I haven't done a very good job documenting the first 4 months of her life, so I want to be able to do so here but also share with family and friends the going on's in our life. Daddy P was a stay at home day for just a month before I got laid off. Since he is working nights, we get to share in the daily excitement of raising a little P.
